Since 1942, Camp Joy has been doing Christian camping for the children of New York City. In 1952, Camp Hope was founded to provide a Christian camping experience for children, teens and adults with physical and/or developmental disabilities. Summer missionaries with Children’s Bible Fellowship of New York minister to these “Forgotten Fields”: urban children who may be lost, hurting and broken and/or children or adults with disabilities.
Our purpose is to teach the camp children how much God loves them, how they can know Him, and how they can love each other. A well rounded program of swimming, archery, crafts, hiking camp-outs, drama, music, sports, Olympics, canoeing, choir, cookouts and Bible teaching is carried out by carefully selected Christian young adults who have godly character burden for the children.
Staff come from all over the U.S. and other parts of the world. Although our group is diverse, all have this in common: They love the Lord Jesus Christ, and have a burden to serve Christ here for a summer showing Christ’s compassion to New York’s children. Giving the gospel to these often forgotten people is what we are all about.
We need many different people doing many different things in order for Camp to run smoothly. These positions are filled in many different ways. Some come for the whole summer others come just when needed, others still come for just a week or even a day. Some staff are paid others want to donate their time and salary to Lord, but all are called to bring Him Glory. For we are one body with many parts. Where do you fit in? Besides camp counselors we need:
- Nurses
- Cooks
- Kitchen Help
- Laundress
- Housekeepers
- Grounds keepers
- Bus drivers
- Office personnel
- Lifeguards
- Building Maintenance personnel
- Program Directors
- Donors
- Prayer Warriors
