CAMP JOY reaches inner city children who are lost, hurting and broken
Camp Joy's primary purpose is to build long lasting relationships with the children of New York City and introduce them into a loving relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. Camp Joy's program is designed to give campers solid Biblical teaching and also to help build skills. The Biblical teaching comes through daily devotion and chapel times, while the skills are developed through activities such as archery, baking, arts and crafts, biking, choir, canoeing, nature study, ropes courses, swimming and others.
Camp Joy counselors are carefully selected college age students from all over the US and other countries. We choose staff who have character, compassion and a love for God. They participate in a two week training session before camp begins. A 5:1 camper to counselor ratio is maintained to ensure that each camper receives proper attention.
Getting Started . . .
Camp Joy offers sessions for children age 7-13 and a session for teenagers age 14-17. Camp sessions fill up quickly and campers will be accepted on a first come, first serve basis. We cannot accept any registration without the $25 registration fee. All children will be put on a waiting list until this fee is paid. We will try to grant you your first choice of session. All sessions, except the teen camp, are open to children ages 7-13.
Our nurses are competent, caring people. They live at camp and are on call all day every day. The nurses give medication and work closely with local physicians to assure proper care for campers. Camp Joy is located within 8 miles of Putnam Hospital Center.
A physician's exam, doctor's orders, health history and immunization record are required of each camper and staff member before they come to camp.
All staff complete training in child development, hygiene, skin care, and emergency procedures.
